Director – Webb Pickersgill

Webb Pickersgill has developed a unique blend of technical and artistic abilities stemming from a wide array of personal experiences to make him the creative person he is today. He graduated with a bachelor degree in music education from the University of Delaware where studied upright bass and played in the school’s wind ensemble. On nights and weekends he pursued his passion of being a rock star playing the electric bass with a local heavy metal band.

While in school, Webb became extremely proficient with computers. After jobs in the music education sector dried up, he became a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (i.e., a nerd) and web developer for a local technology company. He spent the next 10 years developing his technical skills; skills which continue to serve him today as an editor.

Every project can be done with Quality, Speed, and Value. Unfortunately, you only get to choose two. And in my opinion, Quality is always required.” – Webb Pickersgill

In the mid 2000’s, growing tired of a Dilbert-esque cubicle life and wanting to express his creativity once again, he decided to leave the corporate world to pursue his passion of film and video. He started his own company, Bassline Digital, LLC and quit his day job. With no safety net, and a “sink or swim” attitude, he learned quickly what he needed to do to survive in an industry that demands quality results on a budget.

Since then, he has acquired credits in feature film, short film, commercial, TV, web- series, and corporate projects. Although he is known primarily for his cinematography, he is also hired regularly for his skills as a director, editor, and producer.

His projects have won numerous awards including a Rocky Mountain Emmy, Addy, Telly, Communicator, Davey, as well as various specialty awards for multiple film projects. At the 9th annual Phoenix Film Festival he was awarded the “2009 Arizona Filmmaker of the Year.” Webb loves to be involved in every stage in a project, so he can ensure the upmost quality. Some of the projects Webb has been involved in include:

  • Running on Empty Dreams -  (Associate    Producer, Cinematographer, Editor) Feature film drama written and directed by Nitara Lee Osbourne. Trailers produced for the film won three Telly Awards and the film was picked up for distribution by Maverick Entertainment.
  • Match dot Dead, (aka The Abducted) – (Cinematographer, Co-Editor) Feature film produced by Infinite Spectrum Productions, current in distribution by Maitland Primrose.
  • PROBED:signals – (Co-Producer, Cinematographer, Editor) Sci-fi web series which was a spin-off of the 20-minute short film PROBED, which won a Special Achievement award in Cinematography at the 2009 International Horror Sci Fi Film Festival in Tempe, AZ.
  • Small Happys – (Associate Producer, Cinematographer) A collaboration with first-time writer/producer Jean Georgianni that debuted at the 2011 Phoenix Film Festival. He teamed up with Joe Gruberman, our producer, for this drama centered on four 30-something women reliving their pasts. New Times magazine chose SMALL HAPPYS as one of the 8 “must-see” shorts of the Phoenix Film Festival.

In addition to working as a full-time film and video production professional, Webb also enjoys sharing his knowledge by teaching at two local colleges: University of Advancing Technology and the film school at Scottsdale Community College.

In 2011, Webb was asked to take over as the (volunteer) Executive Director of Independent Feature Project/Phoenix (IFP/Phoenix), a non-profit organization for filmmakers. He now oversees the organization directing a staff of over 20.
